Your website should be a hub

Make your website a hub of activity and not just a blog.

Even though we’re spending so much time giving the site a makeover, our second Top Tip is to remember that your website is just one part of what you have to offer.

Your site should act as a hub, and should be a good first point of call for users to find out about what you’ve been up to.

But with so many tools and social media available much of your activity is likely to happen off-site, so your website should be able to direct users to it.

This can be done in simple ways, such as including a Twitter widget, or can be done by writing summary posts for off-site activity.

For example, Daniele wrote a summary of WJChat last week, and at the end of the post simply put a link to his Storify coverage of it.

Similarly, much of what you do off-site can be brought to your main site. It can be done easily by embedding YouTube videos or tweets, or even just uploading screenshots which link to what they show.

If you’re feeling particularly ambitious, you could even try embedding a live external web-page on your site.

The important thing is to make sure that all of your content, regardless of platform, is accessible from your main site.

That’s it for this week’s Top Tips. If you have any suggestions for what we should include in next week’s edition, please get in touch, either by commenting below or by tweeting us @Interhacktives.
