One of the features we’ll be running is a weekly article detailing our top tips from the world of digital journalism. We will publish a few tips every Monday, split (or ‘chunked‘) into a separate, short article for each.
And our first top tip is: IFTTT, an innovative productivity tool suitable for anyone who uses the internet.
It saves the user time by performing certain manual tasks automatically. For example, if I write a blog post, there’s a high chance I’ll want to tweet about it – and IFTTT can send an automatic tweet every time I post (and this can be varied, depending on the category of the blog post).
Another example I like is weather: rather than wasting a couple of minutes each day checking the weather forecast, IFTTT can send me an automatic email or text every time that rain is forecast for the following day.
I won’t go into the exact workings of it here, but these commands are very simple to set up, and there are hundreds of different services that can be connected. It’s been one of my favourite discoveries on the MA course so far.
