Over the past few months we’ve been reporting on the world of social media – from Twitter censorship to lost puppies and personalising news feeds. But now we want to start a discussion with you, the readers. After all that’s what social media’s all about.So we’re introducing a few changes to the site – creating a new forum, weekly Audioboos and videos – as well as event updates, to help you keep in touch with the latest community news.You can read a copy of our online strategy below, get in touch if you have any suggestions!
The relationship between journalists and their readership has shifted massively over the past 5-10 years. It’s now increasingly common for newspapers to employ community managers to oversee their social media presence. And reporters themselves are getting stuck into the worlds of Twitter and Facebook – exploiting both as a means for publicising and sourcing stories. When we began the Interhacktives site we wanted to provide an information source for those working (or studying to work) in this new and ever-changing field.Most of our readership already has an online presence on a range of platforms, but we’ve chosen to focus on Twitter and Facebook in order to publicise content and interacting with readers. While Twitter is the most obvious place to talk to community managers we thought that students are likely to be active Facebook users. We’re also planning on making use of Audioboo, YouTube and Fllickr in order to make our content more interactive. Additionally we will produce user generated content using software such as Storify, particularly when we are reporting from events and want to give a snapshot of the day.In terms of content we’re planning to post a weekly roundup (through Audioboo and a visual magazine), as well as video interviews with social media experts. We will also be hosting polls to gauge readers’ opinions on the latest social media happenings – and we’ll be maintaining a Google calendar, packed with the latest industry events.
