The UK joins the list of countries that have banned TikTok.
The UK’s Cabinet Office announced today that it had banned using the Chinese-owned video application TikTok on their work phones and devices.
Cabinet Minister Oliver Dowden said: “restricting the use of TikTok on Government devices is a prudent and proportionate step following advice from our cyber security experts.”
The Cabinet Office described the ban as “in line with similar restrictions brought in by key international partners, including the US and Canadian governments, and the European Commission.”
The Welsh government has also banned TikTok from the work phones of ministers and civil servants.
The British government has adopted TikTok to communicate with young people. However, the UK has faced calls to follow the actions of the US and EU, which have banned it from official government devices, citing the app’s security concerns. TikTok has insisted that user data is out of the hands of the Chinese government, but many governments remain wary of TikTok.

The list covers the three major institutions of the EU(the European Parliament, European Commission and European Council), the US, Canada, India and Taiwan. Even after this list was created, new countries added names. The Danish Ministry of Defense banned employees from using TikTok on work phones on the 6th. The Belgian government also announced on the 10th that it is banning TikTok on government devices.
