Media Moments 2022 report will be launched on Wednesday, 30 November 2022

Media Voices will launch the Media Moments 2022 report on Wednesday, 30 November 2022.

“Crash in Expectations”: What to expect from Media Moments 2022

Media Voices will launch the 2022 edition of Media Moments today. The report will highlight key events and trends in the media industry throughout this year. It will also delve into the challenges and opportunities lying ahead.

Some of the crucial moments that will be discussed in this year’s report include:

  • the boom and bust cycles of the advertising market
  • news fatigue
  • and the increasing prominence of climate coverage.

“It will also explore why now is a more positive time for local news outlets, how publishers have grown subscribers through newsletters and podcasts, and the crash in expectations of emerging technologies such as the metaverse and NFTs,” Media Voices, which publishes a weekly podcast on global news and views, said in a statement on its website.

Signs of hope amongst the tech gloom

Non-fungible tokens or NFTs, as discussed in Media Voices’ recent podcast, have so far failed to live up to the hype, with trading volumes plunging 97% to $466 million in the period of January to September. Meanwhile, latest experiments on the metaverse were also unable to attract as many user numbers as expected.

“It’s not all doom and gloom for emerging technology though. AI imagery and video has taken great leaps forward this year,” the Media Voices team said. “This tech may not be as sexy as the metaverse and Web3, but is more likely to make a tangible difference to how publishers work in the next few years.”

More details will be discussed during the launch of the Media Moments 2022 report, with senior industry figures set to join the event, namely Caroline Fenner of BuzzFeed, Stephen Lepitak of AdWeek, and Ludivine Paquet of Poool.
