Black Friday SEO hit as Google adds ‘Deals From Stores’ above organic search results

Ecommerce writers may be working overtime this holiday after Google added a new ‘Deals From Stores’ block above organic search results for seasonal keywords.

Searches for Black Friday deals now place a carousel of stores, including Asos, Currys, and Amazon, above organic results, pushing articles further down Google’s first page.

Black Friday Search Term Becomes More Competitive

Google’s Director of Product Management Arjun Chittoor explained the changes in a Google Ads Help post on October 28. The deals feed is part of “new search experiences that triggers for queries like ‘deals’ or ‘black friday’”.

In a previous post from July, Google said this deals feed “will become a staple for current and future sales moments”, including Cyber Monday.

The deals carousel is active for searches on Black Friday – set to take place on November 26. Searches for Cyber Monday (November 29) do not yet display these deals.

News-orientated deals pieces may become more important for publishers, as Google’s Top Stories section remains above the Deals feed.

These Black Friday deal changes come as publishers enter the lucrative holiday season already uncertain about SEO best practices following Google’s November 2021 core update, which met with backlash due to its timing.
