The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting launched a grant to find innovative approaches to report on the novel coronavirus. The opportunity, announced this Thursday 19 March, is open to all newsrooms and independent journalists from across the world.
The journalistic institution is seeking between three and five proposals with a strong collaboration component for reporting and publication, as well as a data-driven or interdisciplinary approach to reporting on the rapidly evolving pandemic.
The proposal is also expected to hold the powerful to account and focus on systemic and under-reported issues underlaying the current public health crisis.
What do you need to apply?
-A 250-word description of the proposed project, including a distribution/publication plan.
- The methodology, including resources shared between newsrooms and a timeline.
- A preliminary budget estimate.
- Three work samples.
- Three professional references.
- A copy of your CV.
The proposal is open to freelance journalists from different backgrounds and countries that seek to work collaboratively. The Pulitzer Centre strongly encourages proposals from reporters and newsrooms that represent a broad array of social, racial, ethnic, underrepresented groups, and economic backgrounds.
The budget for the majority of the projects ranges between $5,000 and $30,000. Applicants are expected to be notified if their proposal was successful up to two weeks after submission.
