If you follow me, @andrewstuart, on Twitter you may well know I am a big user of Instagram. I even use it to do a 365 project.
I find it a fun, experimental and quirky way of sharing photos. You can take a photo and it’ll look fairly awesome on it. It’s not as technically great as professional photography by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s just as fun.
Well, this week, there are two chances to get to know and to have fun with using Instagram.
On February 14, (what’s the date special for, again?) the London Instagram Community is holding a Valentines day meetup. So far, the ‘London in Love’ Photowalk is said to go around Piccadilly, Covent Garden and Leicester Square, and then convene for a few drinks in a pub somewhere afterwards. The meetup is still being finalised, so head over to the page here to get full details and to RSVP.
Elsewhere, on February 15, the Apple store is holding an iPhoneography workshop. This is from 7pm in the Apple Store on Regent Street, London, and talks in general about the process of using the iPhone as a camera. The page says:
Amazingly I persuaded the Apple store to let me stand up and talk about iphoneography for an hour to promote the course I’m teaching at KCC soon. It’s sort of going to be some of the best bits from the course. Doubt if I’ll teach you people anything you don’t know already, but if you’re just curious to see me make a fool of myself or give me moral support, be good to see you.
The iPhone has been put to great use by many people, and even spawned its own blog. The social media and sharing aspect of Instagram is fun for the community who use it, and the idea of a photowalk fuses all these together, in a way that can be enjoyed by anyone. All you need is an iPhone with Instagram, and some free time.
If none of the above interest you, then maybe the Northern Line tube meet in March would be good enough. From Morden in the south, up the bank branch, to Camden town, then back to Waterloo, taking photos along the way. Top up your Oyster cards.
